David Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund
In January 2006, the Morris Lions started a memorial scholarship fund, ‘The Gibby’, to honor the memory of their teammate David Gibson.
David was a charter member of our Montville youth rugby program which was started in 2000 and he played for the Lions as a high school freshman in 2003 through his junior year in the spring of 2005.
A young man committed to his love of life, family, friends and sports, David was passionate about his rugby, fully engaged with his teammates, coaches and practice time necessary to improve his skills, never taking anything lightly. Mediocrity never entered the fabric of his being; it was always the pursuit of excellence. During the competition, he was unwavering in supporting his teammates, with the philosophy “I’ve got your back!” He was the consummate competitor.
The Scholarship
A scholarship award will be presented to a deserving senior on the Lions team at the end of their spring season. The scholarship is intended to be used towards furthering the recipient's academic or rugby career.
Criteria
Selection of award recipient shall include:
- Leadership
- Commitment
- Dedication
- Club Involvement
- Awarding of Scholarship
All seniors are eligible. Finalists will be nominated by coaches with final determination to be decided by scholarship committee.

The Internal Revenue Service recognizes The Morris Rugby Corp. as an eligible nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Accordingly gifts, contributions and grants to The Morris Rugby Corp. may be tax deductible under U.S. federal or state law.
