Team History

Parsippany Panthers play in the Morris Youth rugby league and invite kids from kindergarten through the 9th grade to join in this exciting and fast moving sport. Running, passing, kicking, teamwork and self confidence are a few of the things you will experience in this fast growing non-contact flag version of one of the most popular sports in the world.

In the summers of 2000 and 2001, Carmine Catalano of Parsippany coached rugby while his kids were playing in the youth program in Montville. In 2002, Carmine started a youth rugby program in Parsippany. Carmine, who played a little rugby in college, was also a football coach in Parsippany and a member of the Parsippany PAL putting him an ideal position to gain the support needed for access to kids and fields.

To help out, Morris Youth juggled some coaches around freeing up Parsippany residents Alex Panas and Andy and Sue Steinberg. The result was instant success in Parsippany, where 70 kids turned out to play. With the addition of Parsippany and the contined growth of the programs in Montville, Long Valley and Denville, the Morris Rugby Youth Program grew to over 300 kids in 2002.
